Markham Woods Middle: Young Writers Win Awards

Markham Woods Middle School is home to many aspiring writers in Abby Scherer's Writing Club, but eighth-grader Lindsay Martin and seventh-grader Jacqueline Baron are on the path to becoming published authors.

Lindsay entered a winning essay in the 2011 Teen Read competition sponsored by local libraries. Demonstrating writing techniques and whimsical imagination, her poem captured the theme, “Picture This at Your Local Library.”

Jacqueline had the grand-prize entry for the 2012 Drug-Free Essay contest sponsored by the State Attorney’s Office. Her poem demonstrated the dangers of drugs in a powerful way and wove a narrative that encourages a drug-free life. Lindsay also wrote a poem for this competition and earned second place

Congratulations, Lindsay and Jacqueline -- Markham Woods Middle School and the Writing Club are proud of you.
